The goal of the substantial redesign for the 2024 BMW 1 Series is to maintain the entry-level hatchback’s competitiveness. Even though it is touted as a brand-new, fourth-generation model, a large portion of its hardware is the same as the model that was released in 2019. This comprises the “UKL2” platform, which is also utilized by a number of other BMW and Mini models, so that the car’s dimensions stay relatively constant.

Style and Design
The 2024 1 Series’ new appearance is the most obvious modification. The automobile now has a unique look thanks to the larger front splitter, extended headlights, and shallower front grille. The front and back bumpers have been changed, and the LED headlamps are now more angular. The automobile is 42 mm longer than before as a result of the new rear bumper design. M Sport trim, popular in the UK, features a larger front air intake, more dramatic side sills, and a deeper rear diffuser.

Engine and Performance
BMW has simplified the 1 Series model range and dropped diesel engine options for the UK market. Manual transmissions are also no longer available. The new starting point is the 120i, powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine with mild-hybrid assistance, producing 170hp and 207lb ft of torque. All versions now come with a seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The 120i can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 7.8 seconds and has a top speed of 140mph.

The top-of-the-range M135i hot hatchback retains its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, though power has slightly decreased to 300hp and 295lb ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 4.9 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 155mph. The M135i comes standard with BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

Interior and Technology
The interior of the 2024 1 Series has seen substantial updates. It now features a new dashboard and center console, along with the Curved Display found in other BMW models. This combines a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel with a 10.7-inch multimedia touchscreen. Physical buttons for climate control have been replaced by touchscreen controls. The car includes the latest BMW Operating System 9.0, though the familiar rotary iDrive controller has been removed in favor of ‘quick select’ shortcuts on the screen.

The updated cabin also features a new steering wheel design, with a red 12 o’clock marker on M Sport versions, and illuminated interior trim. Standard features on the 120i Sport include LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, climate control, cruise control, heated seats, parking sensors, and a rear-view camera. The 120i M Sport adds 18-inch alloy wheels, unique M styling, and sports seats in black Alcantara Veganza with blue stitching.

Pricing
UK prices for the 2024 BMW 1 Series start at £29,950 for the 120i, while the M135i xDrive is priced from £41,000.
