The 2025 Isuzu MU-X has been unveiled in Thailand, with a revamped design and improved technology. This seven-seat 4WD has got the same upgrades as the Isuzu D-Max ute, making it more competitive with rivals such as the Ford Everest and Toyota Prado. Australian customers may expect to see the new MU-X in dealerships early next year.
Updated design and features.
The facelifted MU-X has a new look with redesigned front and back fascias, which include updated headlights, taillights, and a wider front grille. The interior has also been upgraded with a new infotainment system that includes volume and tuning sliders, replacing the old buttons for better use. The infotainment screen now enables wireless Android Auto, in addition to the current wireless Apple CarPlay.
The new safety features include the following:
An enhanced rear cross-traffic detection system that can brake for impediments, a 360-degree camera with a ‘transparent bonnet’ view, and upgraded lane-keeping and lane-centering assist.
Engine & Performance
The new MU-X’s engine options remain unchanged. It continues to offer a 1.9-litre turbo-diesel engine with 110kW and 350Nm and a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine with 140kW and 450Nm. Both engines are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission and come in rear- or four-wheel drive variants.
Pricing and availability.
While no specific cost for the revised MU-X has been disclosed, it is likely to reflect the new capabilities and enhancements. The current MU-X begins at $47,400 plus on-road charges, with the top-tier MU-X LS-T 4×4 priced at $67,990 (INR 56,79,544) drive-away.
New Additions
Thai customers can now opt for a sportier RS model, featuring black trim, unique 20-inch black wheels, and special RS badging. It remains uncertain if this variant will be available in Australia. Inside, the RS models come with red ambient lighting and an updated 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Mid-Cycle Refresh
The 2025 update marks the midpoint of the MU-X’s expected seven or eight-year model cycle, which began with its launch in Thailand in 2020. This refresh aims to keep the MU-X competitive against newer models like the Ford Everest, Toyota Prado, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, and the upcoming Toyota Fortuner.
Official Statement
An Isuzu Ute Australia spokesperson commented, “The facelifted MU-X recently unveiled in Thailand on 12th June is a specification limited to vehicles produced for that market and subsequently we are not in a position to comment on that vehicle or market.”
As Australian buyers await the arrival of the updated MU-X, it’s clear that Isuzu aims to keep its popular 4WD fresh and competitive in a rapidly evolving market. Stay tuned for more updates on pricing and availability as the release date approaches.
