BCCI Announces Rs 125 Crore Prize for T20 World Cup Champions India

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has awarded a significant prize money for Team India following their stunning victory in the T20 World Cup 2024. India won their second T20 World Cup, defeating South Africa in the final on Saturday, June 29, at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Match Highlights: India vs. South Africa

After deciding to bat first, the Men in Blue scored 176/7 in their allotted 20 overs. This incredible total was partly thanks to Virat Kohli’s magnificent innings of 76 off 59 balls, and Axar Patel’s 47 off 31 balls.

In response, South Africa managed only 169/8 in 20 overs. Indian bowlers Hardik Pandya (3/20), Arshdeep Singh (2/20), and Jasprit Bumrah (2/18) all contributed significantly to the victory. India triumphed by seven runs, bringing an end to their 11-year drought for an International Cricket Council trophy.

BCCI Announces Prize Money

Following the historic victory, BCCI secretary Jay Shah declared a hefty INR 125 crore reward money for the entire team, including players, coaches, and support staff. Jay Shah made the announcement via his X account, praising the team on their outstanding performance.

“I am glad to announce a prize money of INR 125 crores for Team India to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The team has demonstrated remarkable talent, effort, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. “Congratulations to all of the players, coaches, and support staff on this outstanding achievement,” Jay Shah posted on his X account.

Record Prize Pool from ICC

The International Cricket Council (ICC) had previously declared a record $11.25 million prize fund for the T20 World Cup 2024. India will get $2.45 million (Rs 20.42 crores) as the competition’s victors, as well as other bonuses, the most amount ever paid in the tournament’s history.

South Africa’s Prize Money

South Africa will be awarded $1.28 million (Rs 10.67 crore) for coming in second. Teams received an additional $31,154 (INR 25.97 lakh) for winning each match. This takes Team India’s total prize money from the ICC to INR 22.63 crores.

Celebrating India’s Victory

India’s triumph in the T20 World Cup 2024 demonstrates the team’s ability, resilience, and determination. The BCCI’s announcement of the substantial prize money emphasizes the importance of this achievement as well as the support for the players, coaches, and staff that contributed to this historic victory.
