Design and Ergonomics
BMW R 12 NineT
The R 12 nineT is a classic roadster that looks great in urban areas. It has an aluminium tank with brushed and clear-coated side panels, a dynamic seat, and a tail-hump that forms a rising, dynamic line. The 30 mm shorter gasoline tank guarantees better ergonomics and a more forward-oriented seating position than its predecessor.
BMW R 12
The R 12 represents a traditional cruiser design. Its steel tank, resembling the “Toaster Tanks” of the 1970s BMW /5 vehicles, creates a descending line alongside a low-mounted rear wheel cover. A huge 19-inch front wheel and a compact 16-inch rear wheel complete the traditional cruiser style. The comfortable seating position with low seat height and wide handlebars ensures a comfortable ride.
Attention to detail
The new Heritage models demonstrate painstaking attention to detail. The R 12 nineT stands out for its meticulously sculpted front fender bracket and LED headlamp with a black-framed light guiding element. The instrument panel is smoothly integrated with the overall look, with two round instruments on the R 12 nineT and a single round instrument on the R 12.
Powerful Performance
Both the all-new R 12 models feature an air/oil-cooled boxer engine. The engine specs are as follows:
- BMW R 12 nineT: 101 mm bore, 73 mm stroke, 1,170 cc capacity, delivering 80 kW (109 hp) at 7,000 rpm, with a maximum torque of 115 Nm at 6,500 rpm.
- BMW R 12: 70 kW (95 hp) at 6,500 rpm, with a maximum torque of 110 Nm at 6,000 rpm.
Frame and Suspension
The all-new BMW R 12 models use a completely new tubular bridge steel spaceframe. The tubular steel rear frame is attached to the main frame via bolts. The left-mounted “Twin Pipe” exhaust system with two rear silencers has a reverse cone configuration.
BMW R 12 NineT
The manifolds and front silencer are chrome-plated, while the rear silencer is electropolished. The suspension system consists of upside-down telescopic forks with a 45 mm slider tube diameter, a Paralever swinging arm, and a directly attached sprint strut.
BMW R 12
The R 12 has electro-polished manifolds and brushed surfaces on both the front and rear silencers. It also has a strong suspension system to provide a smooth ride.
Advanced Braking System
The front wheel of both models is equipped with a twin disc brake featuring two radially mounted 4-piston monobloc brake callipers and a 310 mm diameter. The rear wheel uses a single disc brake with a 2-piston floating calliper and a 265 mm diameter. Both models come standard with BMW Motorrad ABS Pro, offering enhanced safety when braking in bends.
Safety and Control Features:
Dynamic Traction Control (DTC
Both models include Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), which ensures maximum driving safety when accelerating.
Engine Drag and Torque Control
Standard engine drag torque control and tire pressure management are offered for increased safety.
Adaptive Headlight Pro
The adaptive Headlight Pro light system is standard on both models, providing increased safety during nighttime rides.
Keyless Ride System
The standard Keyless Ride technology replaces the usual ignition lock, providing both convenience and security.
Riding Modes
The all-new R 12 nineT has “Rain,” “Road,” and “Dynamic” riding modes, while the R 12 has “Roll” and “Rock” riding modes, which allow riders to tailor the motorcycle’s behavior to their preferences.
Optional Packages
Comfort Package
The Comfort package adds Hill Start Control Pro, Shift Assistant Pro, heated grips, and cruise control.
Option 719
- BMW R 12 nineT: Combines conventional and dark-looking machined components with a bright solid Racing red frame.
- BMW R 12 has Avus Silver metallic paintwork with dark contrasts, a high-quality machined component package, and an Option 719 seat with gold stitching.
Conclusion
The all-new BMW R 12 nineT and BMW R 12 demonstrate BMW Motorrad’s commitment to combining traditional design with cutting-edge technology. These motorcycles provide a distinct riding experience by blending charisma, originality, and powerful performance. Whether you prefer the elegant roadster or the classic cruiser, both offer a memorable ride.
