Roof Collapse at Delhi Airport Terminal-1: Six Injured, Operations Suspended.
Six persons were injured on Friday morning after a piece of the roof of Delhi International Airport’s Terminal-1 fell due to heavy rain, causing severe damage to automobiles parked in the pick-up and drop-off area. According to Delhi Fire Services (DFS) officials, the incident involving the roof sheet and supporting beams prompted swift response by rescue crews.
At around 5:30 a.m., the DFS received a distress call regarding the collapse, triggering the dispatch of three firefighters to the scene. A search operation is already underway to ensure that no one else is trapped within the damaged vehicles. Among the six injured, one was saved from a car after an iron beam fell on it. All injured people have been transported to the hospital for treatment.
The fall has necessitated the suspension of airline departures from Terminal 1. An airport official indicated that operations at the terminal would be paused until the issue was totally under control and safety was guaranteed.
Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu updated the public about the situation through a post on X. “I am personally following the roof collapse incident at T1 Delhi Airport. First responders are on-site. I also advised the airlines to help all affected customers at Terminal 1. The injured have been sent to a hospital. Rescue activities are still ongoing,” he said.
Emergency services are working tirelessly to assess and mitigate the damage while guaranteeing the safety and security of all those affected. The authorities have committed to conduct extensive investigations to determine the reason of the collapse and prevent similar events in the future.
