Vaibhav Singh, a Delhi-based lawyer, has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against many individuals who allegedly violated the Delhi High Court’s Video Conferencing Rules. The respondents mentioned in the PIL are Sunita, Akshay Malhotra, a social media user known as Nagrik-India Jeetega, Promila Gupta, Vineeta Jain, and Dr. Arunesh Kumar Yadav. They are accused of knowingly filming and posting court events on social media.
Allegations and Court Orders.
The PIL claims that the accused purposefully captured video and audio of court hearings involving Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener. This recording was allegedly made on March 28, during Kejriwal’s appearance in court following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate. The plea alleges that this act was done to malign and manipulate the court proceedings, posing a danger to the trial court judge.
The court ordered the respondents to erase the disseminated information from their social media accounts. The hearing is scheduled for July 9.
Call for a Special Investigation
Vaibhav Singh’s plea requests the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate and file a FIR against individuals who colluded to record and disseminate court proceedings. The petition also begs for a thorough inquiry to identify all those engaged in this incident.
Contempt of Court Charges
The petition requests that the court punish the alleged contemnors under the Contempt of Courts Act of 1971 and apply heavy fines for breaking the Video Conferencing Rules of 2021. The plea emphasizes accountability and conformity to court rules.
Kejriwal’s Bail Hearing
In a related event, Arvind Kejriwal’s bail hearing is set on June 19. The Additional Sessions Judge adjourned the case after the Enforcement Directorate asked more time to respond.
This case emphasizes the significance of upholding the integrity of judicial procedures, as well as the potential legal penalties of breaking the rules. The future hearings will determine the next steps in this legal case.
