Fresh Violence Erupts in Manipur’s Jiribam: Houses Set Ablaze

Two abandoned Meitei houses in Jiribam, Manipur, were allegedly set on fire by unknown individuals early Friday. This event occurred despite the recent deployment of more security troops in the district in response to a recurrence of violence.

Details about the incident in Manipur
According to authorities, the arson occurred at 3 a.m. on Friday in Bhutangkhal, which is under the jurisdiction of the Borobekra police station. Fortunately, there were no injuries in this occurrence.

Background and Current Situation.
Jiribam, a district bordering Assam, is Manipur’s primary business hub. However, commercial activity in the area has been impeded since June 6, when the beheaded body of a missing individual was discovered, sparking additional violence. Since then, more than 70 homes from both groups have been demolished, displacing over a thousand people who have sought sanctuary in neighboring Assam and other safer parts of Jiribam.

Security Measures
To avert future bloodshed, more security forces, including Manipur Police and central forces, have been deployed to watch over critical locations. District police are diligently striving to maintain peace and prevent any disturbances.

AJMWS responds to violence.
In light of the current situation, the All Jiribam Muslim Welfare Society (AJMWS) has decided to curtail Eid-ul-Adha celebrations. A conference convened on Friday in Sonapur, Jiribam, resulted in the decision to curtail festival-related relaxation and amusement activities. As a show of solidarity for the victims of the recent violence, the AJMWS has announced that Eid-ul-Adha prayers will be held at local Masjids rather than big crowds at Eidgahs.

Calls for peace and safety.
The AJMWS has also announced a special prayer on Eid to promote peace and normalcy in the region. They have urged the Muslim community in Jiribam to avoid unnecessary movements and to exercise caution during this time.

Conclusion
As Jiribam deals with the aftermath of increased violence, local authorities and communities work to restore peace and secure everyone’s safety. The situation remains volatile, and vigilance and togetherness are essential during these difficult times.
