Google Introduces “Listen to This Page” Feature for Chrome on Android. Google is launching an intriguing new feature for Chrome users on Android called “Listen to This Page.” This revolutionary feature enables users to listen to any online page in their favorite language and voice, resulting in a more varied, hands-free browsing experience. According to 9to5Google, this update will soon be available to all stable users.

A New Way to Experience Web Content.
Google’s new feature, announced on a help page, allows users to listen to text on a webpage using play, pause, rewind, and fast-forward options. Users can also change the playback speed, choose their preferred voice, and enable text highlighting and auto-scroll for a more personalized listening experience.

Voice and Language Options

The “Listen to This Page” feature offers four different voice types:

  • Ruby (mid-pitch, warm)
  • River (mid-pitch, bright)
  • Field (low-pitch, bright)
  • Moss (low-pitch, peaceful)

Languages supported by this function include English, Hindi, Bengali, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.

Availability and limitations.
It’s crucial to note that the feature might not be present on every web page. If a website does not support this functionality, it will not be listed in the three-dot menu. Previously, users could listen to a web page by giving Google Assistant a voice command, but this new function provides more personalization possibilities, improving the user experience.

Seamless browsing experience
This function is comparable to one present in Safari for iOS, which allows users to listen to web pages with Siri’s voice. However, unlike Safari, which removes users from the browser, Google’s new option maintains users within Chrome, offering a seamless browsing experience. Google has also tested this feature for Chrome on desktop, expanding its utility beyond mobile devices.

How to Use the Feature

To use “Listen to This Page,” follow these simple steps:

  1. Open Google Chrome on your Android device.
  2. Navigate to the web page you want to listen to.
  3. Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner.
  4. Select “Listen to This Page” from the options.

Once selected, the web page’s content will be read aloud in a podcast-like format, with playback controls for play, pause, rewind, fast-forward, and skip 10 seconds. To exit the listening mode, simply tap “Close.”

Google’s new feature seeks to make online browsing more accessible and convenient for people who prefer to listen rather than read. Keep a look out for this update on your Android device and experience hands-free web browsing like never before.
