Hyundai has provided an early view of its first tiny electric SUV, the Inster, which will be officially presented at the Busan International Mobility Show in South Korea at the end of June. This new model is closely connected to the Korean-only Casper and will be marketed as the Casper Electric in Korea but as the Inster elsewhere. Hyundai says the moniker “Inster” combines “intimate” and “innovative,” and it offers a long driving range, cutting-edge technology, and advanced safety measures.
The Inster resembles the Casper, with spherical LED daytime running lights and eye-catching pixel-style turn signals. It appears significantly larger than the Casper, but the precise measurements will be disclosed in three weeks. Teasers depict the Inster with a front charging port and unique four-spoke wheels. It also features black fenders and roof rails.
While the Inster shares much of its shape with the Casper, it has some new design elements at the back. The LED taillights have a simpler pixel design, similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6. The tailgate also has a large “Inster” badge.
There are no official photos of the Inster’s interior yet, but spy shots suggest it will have many features from the Casper, such as a digital instrument cluster, a large central infotainment screen, and a three-spoke steering wheel.
Reports suggest that Hyundai aims to price the Inster below €20,000 (about $21,500), making it the brand’s cheapest electric vehicle. It will be powered by a drive module from BorgWarner, though specific power and battery details are still unknown.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Inster as we get closer to its full reveal
